What our guests say...

Old fashioned high standards of service!

Just what you hope to find when the campervan is parked and you wander into a freehouse! Friendly landlord, cheerful and efficient staff and a tasty, well-cooked & reasonably priced dinner. Add to this a very pleasant wander along the hand-pumps and you can see why I'll definitely be back. Cheers!

Bembridge Gem

"Visited at lunch time after a long beautiful coastal walk. We were greeted warmly, including our little dog. The interior is as lovely as the exterior of this public house - very light and roomy with a sparkling appearance. We ordered the local Bembridge crab sandwiches. These were served to us very promptly with an appetising salad garnish. The crab was so fresh and appetising and the portion so generous that we were well satisfied. We also ordered filter coffees and these again were served in stylish mugs and good quality coffee served hot. So looking forward to a return visit to sample the excellent menu."

“A startling contrast from the average hotel experience” - link

"My wife and I visited The Pilot Boat Inn with a voucher deal giving us off season ( middle of Jan) BB and evening meal for around £80. We arrived in the car park and left our bags in the car because our first impressions left is genuinely wondering if we might be back in the car and driving home in 10 minutes! Still, no way we were getting the £80 back so in we went. The bar had some character and and the young lady at the bar was friendly and welcoming. She called the hotel owner who showed us to our room and it was delightful. I am so used to hotel facades and receptions being so grand, only to eventually find the room a bit drab that The Pilot Boat Inn genuinely suprises by turning this tactic on its head. Everything about the room was clean and fresh. The shower in the en suite was amazingly powerful and bucking another hotel trend, simple to use.
Back to the bar for our 2 coarse evening meal. I was allowed to try the wine before I commited to a bottle and ended up with an Argantinian Caoba which at £15 which was superb. Salmon starter and steak for me (keeping it simple) and crab followed lamb shank for my wife. I asked for the rib eye to be well done as it is a cut that can take it, and I can't remember having had a more perfectly cooked steak.
This is a book you don't judge by its cover. It's attempt to make the building look like a boat are a disaster but get through the front door and you are in for a treat. 4/5 for the Pilot Boat. No prizes for guessing where it dropped a point.

“Boat outside and Treasure island inside” - link

"Needing to visit the Isle of Wight with a view of moving to the island in 2015 we decided to stay at this hotel having read good reviews on tripadivsor. Finding the hotel was easy and we parked right next to the entrance. On entering we experienced a very warm and comfortable feeling, the bar was welcoming with a blazing fire at one end and was busy even for a December lunchtime. The staff were welcoming and very efficient .We were shown to our room and were really pleased with what we found . The room was very clean, had a massive ultra comfortable super king bed ,coffee and tea on tap and room for our cases without them getting in the way. There was also a couple of easy chairs in the alcove and a flat screen TV . The en-suit looked new with a nice big shower and loads of piping hot water. During our stay we sampled the food and found this to be very good and tasty also not over priced with good service given. I must also agree with previous reviewers the crab sandwiches we had one lunch time were the best that we have ever had and can't wait to sample these again when we return. The bar offered local real ales with a Christmas theme and I enjoyed quite a few after our investigative driving round the areas that we wanted to look at during our stay. The breakfasts cooked and served by George the owner were excellent and all tastes were catered for. Finding that George was very easy to talk to we also questioned him in detail on his local knowledge of the places that we may have been interested in moving to. Very good advice was given. We hope to visit the island again some time in April/May and are looking forward to it. All in all an excellent place to stay on the Island."
